Give Yourself a Boost

By Laura: Not the most glamorous or desirable product in your beauty arsenal but a crucial one none-the-less, spot cream is something most of us need to reach for now and again. Performance is all when it comes to blemish busting and if a product doesn’t deliver, it’s off my face and out of my make-up bag. For Blemish Busting Month I’ve been trialing Dermalogica’s Special Clearing Booster. As with all Dermalogica products, no-frills practicality is what’s on offer: the opaque cream has a mildly medicinal smell and slightly grainy texture. Applied on angry spots, the five per cent Benzoyl Peroxide concentrate immediately begins to dry blemishes out. Precision is important so make sure you only dab this potent stuff onto the actual spot – not the surrounding area – or prepare for a dry patch.

Although I’d say that Special Clearing Booster is effective in terms of spot-size reduction, I was hoping for a more immediate lessoning of overall redness, which unfortunately this didn’t deliver.

Clear It Up

Another day, another spot treatment. The creamy formula of Derma E Clear Skin 2 Spot Blemish Treatment sinks into skin like a moisturiser. I love this treatment because it doesn’t aggravate my dry skin. So many spot treatments are meant only for oily skin but this little bottle of goodness works fantastically well on my parched complexion. A soothing treat for red and inflamed pimples, Clear Skin 2 is also highly effective in healing up spots with its antibacterial blemish busting power!

Hits the Spot

There are so many spot treatments available, it’s hard to know which is best. Well, I’ve had a sneaky preview of Darphin Stop Imperfection Blemish Clearing Gel, which will be available from July, and it is one of the best I have tried.

Not only does it actually work at reducing oil, exfoliating dead skin cells and purifying pores, it melts into the skin effortlessly. I’ve tried too many spot treatments which work fantastically but leave an obvious flaky patch where it has been dabbed on to pimples, making them suitable for night-time only. Darphin’s Blemish Clearing Gel sinks into skin and is instantly invisible. So no-one need know your face is covered with blobs of spot cream.

It also smells like it’s good for your complexion; lavender, sage and geranium makes a heavenly aroma!
