A New Face

I’ve been happily using New ID Cosmetics for a while now, so it’s about time I posted a review of this fantastic brand.

Initially, I felt a little underwhelmed with the products. Going on looks alone, the white and slightly clunky packaging looks a little cheap. That said, As soon as I started using the products I was converted.

I tested the i-glow in siricco; a golden shimmer powder, and i-smoulder, a smudgy smokey eye pencil.

Let’s start off with the i-glow. Crikey I love this stuff, it makes my face shimmery and highlighted and I can tell it’s going to last for bloomin’ ages. The golden shimmer works amazingly well with a tan, but I also wear it under foundation for a brightening pick me up. The only problem I have with it is the product fall out. I recently swept the powder across my cheekbones whilst wearing a black dress, only to find I was laced in golden glittery powder. So you have been warned! Some may find the i-glow a little too glittery, but use it sparingly or under foundations and I reckon you’ll love it as much as me.

The i-smoulder is also a lovely product and one which I have frequently been using. The charcoal shade is a dark grey more than a black and is a softer alternative to heavy black liner, but equally rock and roll. On one end of the pencil you’ll find a liner and on the other you get a cream shadow. I absolutely recommend applying a flesh-coloured shadow to the lid before applying i-smoulder; it’ll stop it shifting too much as it is a very smudgy product.

I’m looking forward to perhaps treating myself to more products from New ID Cosmetics – the only question is, which ones??

Nice Try

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is known far and wide as the must-have product to revive skin and give it a dewy, wide-awake look. So I was excited to try the eye-version, Eye Revive Beauty Flash, but disappointed by the results.

I was expecting the same kick-start for skin but instead was left with a normal eye cream. Pffft, Clarins… nice try but could do better.

Simply the Best

Whilst watching Gok Wan’s latest TV offering ‘Miss Naked Beauty’ a few weeks ago I found myself stunned by the contestants gorgeous skin. When I found out that they had B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful Cream Foundation in their minimal make-up arsenal I knew I had to try it out.

Well, now I have and there’s one word which sums it up… ‘wow’.

The foundation is quite thick and very creamy when it comes out the pretty bottle (which looks great on my dressing table by the way) but when applied to the skin it feels very light and gentle.

This is probably the best foundation I have tried – and trust me I’ve been through a lot in an attempt to find my perfect formula. It offers fantastic coverage without being cakey and that’s what makes the cream foundation so wonderful – all my little flaws are hidden but the glow of my cheeks and my natural colouring still shines through.

When I wear this my complexion looks bright, healthy and clear. I can see this make-up marvel staying with me for a long time to come. I’m so impressed I’m even going to show you how it looks on me – now I’m not wearing any other make-up here, just the cream foundation in ‘Binky’, so be kind!

Simply Marvel-ous

Ginvera Marvel Gel is truly incredible. I have never used anything like it and I wanted to share with you the benefits of this little wonder.

The green gel comes in a teeny tube for £15 but that’s OK – you only need a tiny bit for it to work its magic. The gel is an exfoliater with a big difference. Simply rub the lime-green gunk into the face and soon you’ll notice a flaky paste forming.

This paste is a build up of dead skin which the Marvel Gel has picked up… which is gross but great! When the gel has dried up simply wash away the flakes and any residue and you’re good to go.

Skin is incredibly soft and smooth and much more receptive to moisturiser.

Marvel Gel is particularly good for skin which is prone to the occasional pimple or for suffers of milia, whiteheads and blackheads. My white heads have been significantly reduced since I began using this product just a few days ago, and acne scars have been lightened.

This product really lives up to its name, it has turned my skin into a real marvel and now I can’t live without it.

Stop Right There!

Some opportunities are just too good to pass up and when I was given the chance to try ‘Stop’ I grabbed it with both hands.

Stop is a new skin care device which uses Tripollar radio frequencies to stop ageing in it’s tracks. It’s like a high tech salon treatment in your palm. The small gadget stimulates the growth of new collagen, plumping up the skin and banishing wrinkles.

The process is a little daunting at first, with an instruction leaflet listing everything you need to do to prevent burning, but once you get started it’s a cinch. Simply apply a thin layer of preparation gel all over your face – this stuff is really thick and slimy, with a bit of a granular texture to it, but it protects your skin and lets the machine work its magic.

Next, turn on the hand held gizmo and start moving it over your face in slow circular motions to heat the skin. When the dermis has warmed up an orange light comes up telling you to move on to the next area. After the whole face is heated you simply go back over the face in lifting movements. Wash off the gel and apply the special lotion to finish.

I tried Stop for the first time last night and found the treatment extremely relaxing though it took a little while. I’m such when I’ve done it again I’ll be more efficient and it won’t take as long.

But what about the results?? Well, it is truly staggering. After just one treatment my wrinkles looked completely ironed out. It was pretty hard to stop looking in the mirror and prodding my forehead. 12 hours later and my skin is still unbelievably smooth. I looked like I had botox but without the scary frozen facial expressions. Long term results are expected in 6-8 weeks, so I’ll be regularly updating you on my process.

It doesn’t come cheap though, at £369, but if you are thinking of going for botox this could well be a better option and more cost effective.

Gently Does It

I am madly in love with Origins products, so when the brand’s supremo exfoliater ‘Modern Friction for the Body: Nature’s Gentle Dermabrasion’ won a Cosmo Beauty Award, I knew it was time to give it a try.

The dermabrasive cream buffs away dead surface skin cells leaving skin fresh, smooth and glowing. Simply apply the thick and grainy paste to skin which is prone to ageing and needs a touch of care; shoulders, chest, shins and thighs are a good start. Wait a minute and massage the gommage in.

You’ll start to see your skin turn brighter before your eyes and the paste will pick up the dead skin. sloughing cells away. To finish, jump in the shower and the watch the Modern Friction lather. The addition of water turns the touch cream into a silky smooth foam, which feels wonderfully moisturising.

As for the results, I’ve tried this desirable product just twice in the past week and my skin is ready to bare all. Not only does it feel soft and sensuous but it looks like velvet and simply glows. Needless to say, it has pride of place on my bathroom shelf and will do for a long time to come.

Repair and Relax

Winner of ‘Best Age-Defying Serum’ at the Cosmpolitan Beauty Awards was Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex. I decided to get my hands on the serum to see if it would get my vote.

I was expecting Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair to be thick, greasy and slimy. The type of serum which works miracles on mature or dry skin but is a nightmare for anything else. Most serums in my bathroom simply have to substitute my moisturiser, otherwise they unleash a battle of pimples across my chin.

Night Repair is different. The smooth textured serum absorbs instantly into my skin and, unlike a few serums I have tried, it doesn’t all roll away when I put moisturiser and make-up on. Top marks for practicablity, but what about effictiveness?

The serum claims to repair UV and environmental damage, reducing lines and wrinkles and protecting the skin from further damage. Does it? Well after only a few days of using the serum I can put my hand on my heart and say that my skin already looks better. The skin on my forehead feels more plumped up and less parched, my cheeks are glowing and my skin feels soft.

My complexion is altogether more radiant, nourished and healthy. This little vial of wonder has been given countless awards and it’s not hard to see why. At £37, it gets the Beauty Guerrillas seal of approval!
