OK, I admit it. I hadn’t heard of ArtDeco cosmetics until a few days ago, but this great makeup brand is something of a hit in professional circles and was previously only available to makeup-artists in the UK.
Thanks to the launch of new website catwalkbeautysecrets.com all us regular folk can now get our hands on the products.
I’ve been road-testing some of the lip products and I’m fairly impressed; I’ll certainly continue to use them.
First up we have the Natural Lip Corrector. This is a skin tone shaded lip pencil which you apply to the outside lip line. The pencil corrects any little irregularities that you may have and creates a picture perfect shape to the pout in the process. It also works to stop lipsticks bleeding or feathering – bonus!
Next I tried the Hot Chilli Lip Booster, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Using spicy ingredients to essentially irritate the lips into swelling, the lip gloss plumps up your pout and gives it that bee stung look. If you have sensitive lips then I don’t recommend it as it does have a bit of a sting to it but if you can brave that zing then you’ll be pleased with the results. The addition of sparkling glitter gives the lips and even plumper look.
Finally, there’s my favourite product – the Magic Fix. This clear liquid is brushed on to lips after applying lipstick and it seals the colour incredibly well. I could drink and eat without my lippy smudging or shifting. This is something that I will use religiously before nights out, when I am always too lazy to reapply my lipstick. I can almost convince myself that it’s an investment too – think of how much longer your lippy will last without the need to keep slapping it on every five minutes!
All in all I think this is a good little range and catwalkbeautysecrets.com is a fab website with a small but perfectly formed, well though out collection of beauty goodies.
Attention fellow make-up magpies! Lancôme’s big spring success story is the Pink Irreverence range; a beguiling clash of girlie pink set against hard, treacly black. So shockingly coloured are the glosses and varnishes, they make me want to sit cross-legged, smearing goo on my face like a lunatic child with her mother’s make-up bag. The Le Vernis nail varnish in Piha Black is a standout product for its dense coverage and shimmery, rock-hard finish. The Laque Fever lipglosses are formulated in a unique new finish that is shiny as vinyl but doesn’t rub off or disappear after a couple of happy hour mojitos. Some of the products have already sold out, so if you spot a lingering one-off on a beauty hall counter, be sure to snap it up!
Newsflash: Girls Aloud are launching a range of eyelashes in association with Eylure. Details aren’t released yet, other than the fact that each set reflects each girl’s personality. You can bet that there will be some seriously long, thick and spiky sets available.
They’re out in April and we’ll be getting our guerrilla mitts on them as soon as we can!
NuBo Voile is the latest breed of skincare/makeup hybrid. This luscious scented cream-gel feel like velvet on the skin and dries to a powdery finish.
Fine lines and imperfections are immediately softened up and the skin is left looking radiant and smooth. With hyaluronic acid NuBo Voile plumps up the skin and works long-term to hydrate and fight ageing.
If you have pimples then you’ll need to wear foundation on top of it, but if you just need a bit of extra help then this could be everything you are hoping for.
It’s available in a range of shades and there’s also a transparent version; £40 from Harrods.
Holy smokes! I’m totally flabbergasted after trying Estee Lauder Turbo Lash All Effects Motion Mascara (say that after a cocktail or two!).
This innvovative new product is a vibrating mascara – I’ve been a bit slow to jump on this bandwagon but I’m finally there and very impressed. It’s really easy to apply; there’s no need to worry about poking yourself in the eye because of the vibrations… you can hardly even see the wand move.
Just one sweep of the brush and lashes are thicker, longer and have a lovely curl. I’ve always been a big fan of Dior Black Out mascara, but I think I have a new favourite now. I’ve never seen my lashes so transformed and fluttery. The motion of the wans also means that you can apply a good few layers and it just doesn’t clump.
Get it now in time for valentines day dates and bat those eyelashes all night long.
I’ve recently been introduced to Skinfood – a range of unisex skincare from New Zealand. The collection of moisturisers, exfoliant, cleansers, masque and shaving gel are natural and based with coconut palm.
The Skinfood concept is to provide skincare which is suitable for the entire family and uses ingredients like orange, lavender and tea tree which are in abundance in and around New Zealand.
I’ve had the pleasure of trying out both the Nourishing Moisturiser and Exfoliating Scrub.
The Nourishing Moisturiser is formulated for dry skin and is quite heavy so avoid it if you have oily skin. I’ve been using it when I know that I’m going to be spending a lot of time outside in the cold and want to give skin extra protection, or at night alone.
I’m a bigger fan of the Exfoliating Scrub which is a gentle grainy cream that delicately buffs the skin by removing those niggling dead skin cells. It leaves my skin so incredibly smooth and bestows a healthy shimmer on my complexion.
I love how this range is so simple and kind to skin. I don’t feel like it will work wonders on problem skin but if you’re skin is in pretty good shape already and just needs a bit of tender loving care I think it would be ideal.
Available from Tesco.
My skin has been giving me trouble lately. It’s so arid and tight that it could crack at any moment. I can thank the freezing cold temperatures for that. So I was chuffed to bits when Divine Cream from Heaven by Deborah Mitchell landed on my desk.
This peachy coloured moisturiser can be used on the face and body. Initially I thought it would feel too rich for my complexion despite the dryness of my forehead… body moisturisers tend not to translate well onto more sensitive faces.
I was pleasantly surprised though and my parched skin soaked it up with pleasure. It left no sticky or slimy feeling at all.
This lovely cream makes my skin look miraculously fresher, brighter and that little bit happier. it’s all organic and contains face saving ingredients like witch hazel and lavender essential oil which is great for my blemish prone skin. Divine indeed.
