I’m always praising wipe off toners. I love the refreshing, super clean feeling I gain from sliding a toner-soaked cotton ball over my face after cleansing. Now I have a new toner love… Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner.
Firstly, the range is organic so all you natural skincare lovers can tick that box! Secondly, the fragrance is to die for. A very light rose aroma.
Now, rose scents are flooding my bathroom. I can’t get enough of it, so stick some rose in skincare and I’m in heaven. This toner is off to a good start.
But what about results? Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner has the versatility which a wipe off toner doesn’t. Apply it after cleansing, after moisturising, to the face or to the body. I’ve been using it everyday after applying makeup. Not only does it set my foundation but it softens and blends a made-up face. What’s more you can pop it in your handbag and use it to freshen up during the day, without disturbing your make-up.
If you are prone to getting hot in the night then you need this – keep it by your bedside table for a mid-night cool down.
I’ve always been taken with Patrick Bateman, the serial killer in American Psycho. Alright, he’s a totally unhinged character and probably not someone I should aspire to but he is immaculately dressed, has a fantastic apartment and the perfect lifestyle. Well, apart from all the killing anyway.
Early in the film, the super cool killer uses a peel off face mask. I’ve always loved that scene. So, when I was handed a few packets of Peel Off Masques from Montagne Jeunesse For Men, I was looking forward to giving it a go.
The masks, applied in a fine layers over the skin, dry and form some kind of a shrink wrap over dead skin, pores and dirt. 15 minutes later the Masque had tightened and dried up, grabbing a whole load of gunk in the process.
It was time to peel the film away. At first I couldn’t grab the edges and thought I might have to wash the thing off, but after bit of persevering I soon got my technique down. I rolled the mask away in a Batemanesque motion.
When each bit of the masque had been peeled off, my skin was immediately smoother and my pores looked clearer. I was surprised by how much difference it made.
I think the mask would be great before a night out, when you want to look in top condition.
I love dressing my eyes up with shadows and creams. I’m definitely more of an eye-makeup girl than a lipstick lady.
It makes sense then that I adore the eye palettes in the Sue Devitt Sea Spray Collection.
The two pallettes are available in either Green Isles or Blue Waters and range from an off-white, shimmering sea foam hue to dark depths of the ocean darkness and everything in between. They’re all you need for a full smoky eye in a bold and original colour scheme. My favourite is the brightest green shade – its shimmery without being glittery and has a real zing to it without looking nu-rave.
All the shades can be blended incredibly easily and last for hours without smudging or smearing, a huge plus when you like to pile on the layers of colour like I do.
Th best thing about these eye colours though? They contain a bunch of moisturising ingredients including shea butter, ceramides and hylauronic acid as well as vitamins and minerals which work together to encourage skin to absorb water from the air. So your eyes are being looked after whilst you wear your make-up.
It’s a fantastic idea. We live in a world obsessed with anti-aging, so why not have makeup which looks after our skin too?
Each palette costs £30, available from Harvey Nichols.
This week I’ve been writing about banishing the winter blues and have stumbled across some of the most gorgeous citrus scents known to womankind. I think it’s only fair to share. So, here’s my lowdown of some of these fabulous zesty zingy pongs…
Top of the tree is Dior’s new Escale a Portofino (£40 for 75ml) which is available this month. Inspired by the village of Portofino on the Italian Riviera it’s a beautiful fresh citrus scent that’s so lovely it makes me want to go on spritzing and spritzing. Which is fortunate because whilst it smells divine it doesn’t have the best staying power. In this case, it’s such a fresh scent and re-spraying is such a pleasure that I really don’t mind. The glass bottle is sophisticated – basically it’s happiness and summer in EDT form.
Meanwhile, there’s erstwhile favourite Annick Goutal’s Eau D’Hadrien (£57.50 for 100ml). What can I say? This baby is foolproof. Whenever I wear it people ask what I’m wearing. It’s crisp, clean and utterly refreshing. And because it’s Eau de Parfum it lasts a while too. When we’re having a hot spell (which could possibly happen in the next 200 years) it’s a great one to keep in the fridge – applied cool it’s gorgeously refreshing.
Last but not least is L’Occitane’s Citrus Verbena, (£11.50 for 20ml), which launched in July. Now, this is certainly not one for the fainthearted. Short of rubbing lemon slices on your wrist you won’t find anything more lemony in the world. However, it’s an olfactory assault with style and vitality and teamed with the body cream it’s surprisingly lovely.
Also hitting my citrus radar this season is DKNY’s new WOMEN EDP, (£35 for 100ml), which is available from this month. It’s got juicy splashes of grapefruit mixed with fig teamed with some more floral and spicy notes. It’s modern and crisp and the kind of scent you can wear pretty much everywhere.
Sometimes you come a cross a make-up collection which simply takes your breath away. The Autumn range from Sue Devitt has done just that.
Available from Harvey Nichols, ‘Sea Spray’ features eye shadows, lip glosses, blushers and eye pencils all made to mimic the rich colours of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
The colours are vibrant and rich and the textures are fabulous too. It’s no surprise really, as the cosmetics contain a wealth of biotechnological marine and botanical substances such as Sea Butter, Shea Butter, Ceramides and Hylauronic Acid to keep skin soft, plump and moisturised.
We’ll be showing you each of the 8 pieces from the collection in detail, so stay tuned.
Too busy for a complicated skincare regime? Try the fab Super Line Preventor Xtreme, SLP-X, (£35 for 30ml, 0870 034 2566). It’s the sixth version of Prescriptives famous Line Preventor formula, and I have to say that whatever they’re putting in it, it just keeps getting better and better.
It comes in a pretty pink bottle and is designed for daily use under moisturizer. Secret ingredients are its super cocktail of antioxidants which neutralize the evil free radicals that accelerate the ageing process. At the same time, it contains collagen-boosters and hydrating and skin-smoothing agents.
I love it because you can apply it in on second flat and don’t need to wait for it to dry before slapping on some moisturizer.
Results? Frankly, my face stops sagging at around about midday and my makeup stays smooth rather than gravitating towards any wrinkles. Can’t be bad!
For the past 24 hours I have been chewing, munching, sipping and crunching on snacks.
Snacking is a dangerous eating habit. It’s all too easy to grab a packet of crisps here, a chocolate bar there… before you know it you’ve used up half your daily calorie allowance before lunch time and you didn’t even realise.
Calories Exactly is a range of snacks which proudly and boldly state precisely the number of calories they contain on the front of the packet. You won’t find any obscenely high numbers either.
While Calories Exactly is not diet food, it is portion controlled so you know exactly where you are with your calorie intake without having to be totting up complicated sums in your head over and over again.
What’s more it all tastes great! I absolutely adore the Super Sticky Toffee Choccy (100kcals), which is really chewy and gooey and full of melt in the mouth yumminess. For something savoury I highly recommend the Cheesy Curlies. These light little cheese puffs come in a big and munchable bag but they’re lovely and light.
Not quite your style? Grab yourself a smoothie instead! Rasberry and lychee is a refreshing yet wholesome start to the day.
Available from Superdrug, Calories Exactly is simple but effective way for anyone to keep an eye on the amount of calories they’re eating. Even if you’re not trying to shed the pounds you’ll fall in love with these scrummy snacks because they are just that – absolutely delicious!
